Twofold Bay Yacht Club 2002 Regatta

This year the number of Mosquitoes competing was doubled over the previous year with four entries, and once again the Mosquitoes did well against the division 1 fleet, made up mostly with Hobie cats (20, 17, 18, 16). There was also a Nacra 5.8 and two A-classes. Overall the Mosquitoes took 1st, 4th, 5th and 16th places in the 23 boat fleet.

The winds were very variable on the Saturday (from 5 to 20 knots and changing in direction quite radically as well), but we had two very interesting and challenging races. The large ocean swell rolled in at times and when this combined with one of the windier legs the downhill ride was quite superb.

On Sunday we had one race in light breezes which did not suit the other classes at all, and in a dying (actually dead) breeze race 4 was not started.

This is a great event for Mosquitoes to attend. It’s a great bay to sail in with ideal sheltered beach launching, and it’s also a lot of fun to race against the faster cats. This year’s light winds are not typical!

It would be great if we could double our numbers again next year!
